How mum of 2 launched The Healthy Mummy UK

Rhian is the founder of The Healthy Mummy and in 2018 launched The Healthy Mummy into the UK and after 12 months in the UK 10,000’s of UK mums are now using the transformational program – made exclusively for mums

Rhian says, “In 2010, I was pregnant with my first baby and frustrated to find there was no national or holistic support system to help women ‘shape up’ or get healthy after giving birth.”

The Welsh born mother-of-two researched the possibility of creating a safe and healthy plan of her own before taking a leap of faith and quitting her corporate job of 12 years, selling her house and investing every dollar she owned into the idea.

Now, eight years on, Rhian’s business The Healthy Mummy is the biggest ‘mums only’ healthy eating and weight loss program in the world and Rhian has now launched The Healthy Mummy into the UK

I had no idea it would turn out as big as it is today… I left my corporate job of 12 years to start my own business that I was passionate about,’ Rhian said.

‘This is a business that I started on my own after selling my house and investing every single dollar I had into creating a supporting and empowering community of mums to help mums lose weight in a healthy way after having children.

‘We have 100,000’s of mums using our products every day and due to the demand, we have now launched into the UK

‘Life has never been busier.’

Despite managing her growing business, Rhian said family life is number one for her and always prioritises time with them.

I get one and a half hours of work in and half an hour of exercise in before my kids and hubby are up.

‘I am there for play dates. I am there for as many school drop offs and pick ups during the week as I can,’ she said.

‘I spend all my spare time with them and I never let them feel that my work takes over. I also talk to them about my work and get them involved where I can so they don’t resent it when I have to do early morning work.’

What are Rhian’s tips for success?

1. Believe in yourself

Generally speaking, women often lack the self-belief and confidence that men have, particularly in business. You are worth it ladies!

2. It’s okay to make mistakes

When I left my corporate media job and sold my house to start my own business, people asked “What if you fail and lose all your money?” to which I replied, “Then I will go back to work and start again but at least I followed my dreams and tried.” Take the risk and know that everyone makes mistakes, and if you never try, you’ll never know what could happen.

3. Surround yourself with support

I’m very lucky to have such a supportive family who back me all the way, but my team are also incredible. Many of them are busy mums themselves and their positive attitude and hard work makes those crazy, hectic days so much easier to handle.

4. Break out of your comfort zone

Starting your own business is scary, there’s a lot at stake and it can seem daunting. But when you put in the hard work, over time it will pay off. I used to be terrified at the thought of appearing on TV to promote The Healthy Mummy, now I do it every month!

5. Listen to people

Feedback is good because you can learn from it and improve future plans. I don’t think you need to be harsh to succeed in business, if anything, I think the best businesswomen have a lot of empathy and you can be strong and driven as well as kind.

‘I get one and a half hours of work in and half an hour of exercise in before my kids and hubby are up and everyone needs feeding,’ she said.

‘I usually get to the office after school drop off and work like a speed demon with back to back meetings until I leave in the afternoon.’

She also works after her kids are in bed at night and is grateful she has a husband who serves as both a beau and a business partner.

‘We are one of the fastest growing businesses and we have new products in development and launching every month. I have a lot on my shoulders,’ she said.

‘I am exhausted most days and life is a daily juggling act but I do feel a real sense of achievement with what we are doing as a business.

‘For me it is about balance. I have to eat well and exercise and not take on too much.

‘I have also learned to say no to things. If I take on too much the stress becomes way too much and I will crumble and I have learned to know my own limitations.’

Rhian is also a fan of endless to-do lists and is constantly writing new ones.

‘I accept that I never get through them all. And that’s okay. I just prioritise and get through what I can,’ she said.

It feels so good to know that we are positively impacting the health of so many mums.

‘And what I can’t do moves on to tomorrow’s list. I don’t stress about what can’t be done as what I learnt long ago is that it will never be all be done.’

Ultimately, Rhian says she simply doesn’t ‘stress the small stuff’.

‘I just work very very hard and I never stop building but I do switch off at the end of the day and say that’s it for the day and stop to appreciate the things that to me are the most important things in my life – which is my family,’ she said.

‘The most important thing is being happy and we are only here for a short amount of time so I make sure I love what I do and try to do it the best way I can without sacrificing my precious time with my family.’

Rhian was able to find the success she has today by not only creating a solid community and great product but also constantly evolving the brand.

The two biggest products are the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge and the Healthy Mummy Smoothies which are now manufactured in the UK

'Everything we do is from a grass roots perspective and building our community and trust with a customer first approach is how we run the business,' Rhian said

‘I also love to be able to create a positive work environment for so many people and have so many other mums be part of the business that has now become such a big part of so many mums lives.’
