Young mum of 2 shares how the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge has significantly helped improve her scoliosis symptoms.

Angie Shannon, 22, is a mum of 2 children aged 2 and 1.
Angie shares, “I’ve been following The Healthy Mummy 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge since the birth of my first child. In that time I’ve lost 3 stones combined, 1.5 stone after my first child in 8 months and 1.5 stone so far after my second child which took me about 6 months while exclusively breastfeeding.
“Using The Healthy Mummy I’ve had numerous health benefits such as increased energy, I very rarely suffer from asthma attacks now, I couldn’t even walk 500m without puffing previously and now I can run without worry. The Healthy Mummy 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge also helped to improved my back pain which is caused by scoliosis (a curvature of the spine).

“I was diagnosed with asthma as a baby and I’ve suffered serious asthma attacks many many times which saw me admitted to hospital. Since I’ve joined The Healthy Mummy it’s greatly improved my lung function and strength and I now rarely ever suffer shortness of breath, it’s been well over a year since I last had an asthma attack.

Angie’s scoliosis diagnosis
Angie shares, “I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I actually suffered an asthma attack and needed an X-ray of my lungs to see the damage. I was about 16 at the time but I’ve suffered back pain since I was a child, I just never had a diagnosis then.
“Scoliosis has affected many aspects of my life like not being able to carry heavy bags or even hold my child for long periods of time without pain.
“Now that I’m not overweight I feel the weight loss has relieved pressure on my spine and The Healthy Mummy exercises have shown me how to hold myself properly and to do exercises correctly which in turn helps me hold my posture better.”

I have a Smoothie every day for breakfast and my favourite recipe would have to be the Iced Mocha Smoothie with added greens. Angie’s top 3 tips:
- Choose foods you generally enjoy. If you pick things you like it’ll be easier to follow and you won’t feel like you’re missing out.
- Make drinking water fun! Add fruit to add some flavour or use cold fruit tea drops.
- Write down in your diary about your day and what you plan to achieve. Tick it off as you go and focus on one day at a time.
Angie’s goals for 2020:
