7 quick tips to help you say bye bye to your belly bloat

1. Get moving

Exercise is a miracle cure for many things but it can definitely settle your tummy and make you feel less bloated. By getting up and moving about for just 10-15 minutes, itย can help stimulate the passage of gas through your digestive tract.

Try going for a walk or play a game of soccer with the kids, we swear it will help!

2. Taste some turmeric

This golden spice is one of the best anti-inflammatories out there. Turmeric contains curcumin which is the chemical that makes it bright yellow and this helps stimulate the gallbladder to produce bile.

We have some delicious recipes featuring turmeric on the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge. Try our Spiced Chickpea Nourish Bowl for a cleansing, anti-bloating meal!

3. Take some deep breaths

Deep breathing may sound a bit basic but did you know that itย increases blood flow and oxygen to your digestive tract. Simple but effective!

Have you checked out our Mind Body Breath sessions on the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge? Theyโ€™ll help you calm your mind and focus on breathing.

4. Embrace your inner yogi

Yoga perfectly combines deep breathing and exercising, so next time youโ€™re feeling bloated, try getting into a downward dog position! It stimulates your abdominal muscles, especially when you do twist poses.

You donโ€™t have to join a class, just check out some of the workouts on YouTube for 10-15 minutes!

5. Stay away fromย certain foods and drinks

Dairy Free & Lactose Free Alternatives

We all know that certain foods that are particularly fatty, salty and sugary can make us feel bloated so itโ€™s always best to avoid processed foods and fizzy drinks altogether. Dairy can also have a bloating effect, so try cutting down on milk, cheese and cream if you want to work on your tummy.

Unfortunately even healthy foods like broccoli, cabbage and beans can cause bloating! Youย just have toย monitor what you’ve eaten prior to bloating to work out what affects you most. Then you can tweak it so that you might choose a different vegetable if, say, beans cause trouble for your tummy.

6. Eat some Greek yogurt

Yes itโ€™s dairy, but Greek yogurt contains probiotics,ย which help to promote more good bacteria in the gut and improve yourย bodyโ€™s digestion. It can also help reduce the bacteria that can cause gas. There are some delicious yogurt based recipes in theย 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.

7. Take a nap on your tummy

As a last resort, if youโ€™re not in too much pain,ย try stretching out on your tummy for about 15ย minutes. Hopefully the kids wonโ€™t interrupt you!

Of course if you are someone to complain of bloating regularly and or have severe discomfort โ€“ we recommend chatting to your healthcare practitioner.
