How a comb can HELP you through the PAIN of LABOR – it’s not what you think!

Epidurals are soooo 2018. There’s a new pain relief method for labor and it’s pretty, erm, out there.

Apparently, a bog standard comb can help you through the painful experience of giving birth. Say what?!!!!

Did you know a comb can help you through labor? And no, it’s not for your hair

Yup, you heard us correctly.

According to an America birth photography and videography company called Fox Valley Birth and Baby, a simple comb could be used to help ease the pain of child birth.

“When gripped in your hands, a comb can help hit acupuncture points in your hands helping your body forget about the contractions,” the post said.

The post explains that the brain can only focus on a select number of sensations at a time, helping you forget about those pesky and painful contractions.

“It also plays into the gate control pain theory. This theory states that the brain can only focus on a select number of sensations,” the post explains.

“Because the nerve endings are closer on your hands they reach your brain faster. Helping your body forget about the contractions.

“ETA: For those who have asked how to hold it Having the comb hit at the base of the fingers (across the palm of your hand).”

And it seems this method actually works!

“I am a doula birthing partner and I keep a pack of combs in my bag for every birth,” one person commented on the post.

While another added, “I do this every time I get a tattoo.”

It seems a lot more women will be packing a comb into their hospital bag from now on.
