Psychologist urges mums to take a child-free holiday

How dreamy does a child-free holiday (away from bedtime routines, school runs and everything else that comes with being a mum) sound?

Workplaces encourage us to take a few days annual leave every now and then to rejuvenate and it should be the same when it comes to parenting.

Dr Silton tells Fox5NY it’s actually really beneficial for mums to put themselves first and have some ‘leave’ away from the job that is being a mum.

“Motherhood can be very stressful – whether it’s financial stresses, time stresses, just trying to get a whole lot done in a very short period of time,” she says.

“I think it’s really important for mothers to be rejuvenated and refreshed.”

The rise of the Honeyboomers

It seems that holidays without the kids are becoming more and more popular, with the term Honeyboomers (parents in their 40s and 50s going on a child-free getaway) being coined by PureProfile.

Over 2,300 couples with kids under the age of 18 were polled by the website. The found that 30% of couples had already taken a holiday without their kids, while another 35% said they were planning some time off without their offspring.

60% of parents rely on grandparents to take care of their children while they are away. If the grandparents can’t take the kids, then it seems aunts and uncles mind them, as 28% of people surveyed revealed they left their children with other family members.

Whether it’s with your partner or a few days away with the girls, we agree that we could all do with some guilt-free downtime away from the kids every once in a while. As much as we love them!
