Eat your way to better skin

There are so many buzz words when it comes to skincare. They often claim to contain important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

But a great way to get those same goodies into your skin without the need for expensive lotions and potions is through your diet. And thanks to the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge, you can do it in a delicious way while you lose weight at the same time.

5 ways to eat your way to better skin

Today we look at five great ways to help your skin glow – and they’re all available at your local supermarket.

1. Almonds

Three ingredient almond butter fudge

These healthy nuts contain vitamin B2 which hydrates the skin, making it appear smoother. Try eating a handful as a snack – the protein content keeps you feeling fuller for longer.

Try them in our three ingredient almond butter fudge.

2. Oranges

Mini chia and orange muffins

We all know that oranges contain Vitamin C, but did you know that this is crucial for collagen and elastin production? That’s what keeps the skin looking plump and wrinkle free. Due to the fibre lost from juicing, they are better eaten whole. Keep one in your bag for an on-the-go snack.

Try them in a healthy baked treat, such as our mini orange and chia muffins.

3. Salmon  eat your way to a brighter skin - baked salmon

The high levels of omega-3 essential fatty acids help to boost your natural glow. Two serves per week provides you with the recommended intake of omega-3, which is good for your heart too.

Try the Baked Salmon with Wasabi Mayonnaise – recipe available from the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.

4. Spinach

5 ingredient spinach and feta puffs

Lutein in spinach can help to prevent sun damage and can also repair the sun damage that’s already on the skin. That’s not to say you shouldn’t still wear a protective sunscreen and a hat though!

Try to add spinach to your meals to bulk it out, it packs a big nutritional punch while only adding 24 calories per 100g.

Try it in our five ingredient spinach and feta puffs.

5. Avocado

You’ve probably seen Vitamin E on your moisturiser, and avocado is chock full of the stuff. It also contains Vitamin B.

Together they can reduce the effects of environmental damage (sun, pollution) while also helping to restore lost moisture. Try to enjoy a serving of avocado three times per week.

Try it in our delicious spinach mushroom avocado buckwheat bowl – recipe available from the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.
