Winter Is The BEST Time To Lose Weight, Study Claims

A new study published in the journal Scientific Reports found that people who tried to actively lose weight when the temperature dropped saw great results. Woohoo!!!  Researchers at Kyung Hee University Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea, tracked the weight of 3,274 people who lived throughout Europe, America and Asia for a year using an app to log their food intake.

Experts then measured this against a meteorology service, called Weather Underground API, to monitor weather conditions.

The results showed that there is a link between losing weight and colder weather, and people who logged their meals regularly, especially dinner, lost the most weight. 

Researchers believe this is because people are more conscientious about keeping track of their meal and calorie intake during winter.

“Climate-related factors can directly change a person’s behaviour, and these factors can have a certain impact on intentional efforts to lose weight,” says lead researcher Sang Youl Rhee.

“In addition, various climatic factors can lead to a significant change in the level of energy expenditure in the body.

“During the weight-loss journey, it’s important to focus on changing the underlying behaviours that lead to obesity.

“Those who continue logging food and have an awareness around what they are eating will be most successful in losing weight.”

However, this study doesn’t take into account exercise. Other studies, such as the one in the journal of Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism, believe that spending time in the cold can help burn calories by up to 30 per cent.
