Watching Christmas movies can help you live longer

The countdown to Christmas is officially on and everyone is in the mood for watching their favourite festive flicks.

Whether it’s Love Actually, Elf, Home Alone or A Christmas Prince, it doesn’t matter.

Speaking to website DoYouRemember, a psychologist has claimed that these types of films are great for your overall health and wellbeing.

The expert revealed that Christmas movies release ‘feel-good’ hormones, which help lower stress and anxiety and boost your feelings of happiness.

“It does create that neurological shift that can produce happiness,” she says.

“I think anything that takes us out of our normal habituation, the normal day in, day out … signals our senses, and then our senses measure if it’s pleasing or not.

“Christmas decorating will spike dopamine, a feel-good hormone.”

Festive films also tend to be positive and inspirational, share good family values and the importance of close bonds.

But it’s not just films that can help lift your Christmas spirits.

The expert added: “Christmas decorating will spike dopamine, a feel-good hormone [too].”

Moral of the story? It’s never too early to start getting into the swing of the holiday season. Hooray!
